Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs continues conducting events devoted to the International Day for Women Rights and World Peace. This time Morten Enberg, Swedish Ambassador to the Council of Europe, has taken the stage.
Larysa Nalyvaiko, DSUIA vice-rector, and Iryna Hrytsai, Rector’s assistant in gender issues, have organized the meeting. Over 100 students and cadets joined the event.
Academicians, students and cadets had an opportunity to discuss modern tendencies of providing gender equality with the Ambassador of the state, which has been the leader of intellectual and practical movement for gender equality in the world for 100 years. Sweden occupies one of the first places in the world among countries, where citizens respect gender equality values.
Morten Enberg shared the experience of Sweden in providing and securing gender parity, presented achievements of the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights in this sphere as well as listed achievements of Ukraine. Besides, he pointed out the advantages of equal representation of women and men in the Sweden Parliament apart from securing equal access to education at all levels. Valuable recommendations regarding Gender Equality in Education Strategy Introduction, being developed in Ukraine in terms of performing obligations as regards the Biarritz Partnership, were made.
The participants agreed that ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention), signed by Ukraine back in 2011, still remained actual.
Supported by the Council of Europe and Sweden, Ukraine actively pays attention to the provision of non-discrimination (equality) principle at realizing basic human and citizen rights and freedoms. Protection of women and men from all forms of violence as well as their rights remain high priority issues for the state.
