Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs held the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Provision of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men in Ukraine and the World: Contemporary Achievements and Perspectives” devoted to the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine adoption and the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine declaration.
The conference was held both online and offline. Nearly 200 participants joined the discussion, including representatives of 9 countries, namely India, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Greece, Sweden, etc.
Kateryna Levchenko, Authorized person in gender policy, Larysa Nalyvaiko, DSUIA Vice-Rector, and Iryna Hrytsai, DSUIA Rector’s advisor in gender issues, performed moderator functions.
The list of participants included Tetiana Kovalchuk, deputy minister of internal affairs of Ukraine; Olha Revuk, deputy minister of social policy of Ukraine for European integration; Andrii Vitrenko, deputy minister of education and science of Ukraine for European integration; Dmytro Kaplun, deputy head of the Vice-prime-minister Service for European and Euro Atlantic integration; Oleksandr Pyzhov, Director General of the Board for European integration, budgeting and agreeing the policy of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; Andrii Fomenko, Rector of Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs, PhD in Law, associate professor, Honored lawyer of Ukraine, police colonel; Kateryna Cherepakha, president of the NGO “La Strada Ukraine”; Nataliia Karbovska, director in strategic development of the International charity fund “Ukrainian Female Fund”; Khrystyna Kit, candidate of law sciences, head of the NGO Women Bar Association “URFEM”; Anica Djamić, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Croatia in Ukraine; Morten Enberg, Ambassador of Sweden at the Council of Europe; Fredrik Wesslau, deputy head of the EUAM.
Representatives of international organizations, state power bodies, local self-government bodies, social organizations, scientists, lawyers-practitioners as well as graduate students and applicants for higher education joined the discussion as well.
The event aimed at defining strategic directions of state policy as regards providing equal rights and opportunities to women and men under modern conditions as well as improving legislation and law enforcement practices.
Andrii Fomenko, DSUIA Rector, police colonel, addressed to the conference participants with greetings. He stated that for the period of its independence Ukraine has seen substantial progress in human rights sphere, encountering gender aspects and implementation of complex gender approach in the activity of state power and local self-government bodies.
“University team as a core of educational and scientific activity contributes to the significant business of each citizen – provision of equal rights and opportunities to women and men – and productively establishes collaboration with foreign educational institutions. Today, we actively work with 20 foreign institutions. In general, our scientific potential and established academic ties allow us conducting scientific events of national and international level”, Andrii Fomenko emphasized.
According to Kateryna Levchenko, Authorized person in gender policy, the conference was devoted to the development of equal rights state policy.
“Equal rights and opportunities of men and women is the core of the democratic society and stable development approved by Ukraine and the whole world. And it is highly important that practical policy implemented by the Government and the state should have scientific ground. This is the goal of our conference”, Kateryna Levchenko claimed.
Tetiana Kovalchuk, deputy minister of internal affairs of Ukraine, greeted the conference participants as well. She emphasized that equal rights and opportunities for women and men are the fundamental basis and integral part of the security and defense sector reforming process.
“We can definitely say that status of women at security and defense sector has visibly changed comparing to previous years. The things we consider to be our reality (opportunity for women to enter defense sector higher educational institutions, work at operative structures, get relevant salary as men do) have been fought for by women during a long period of time. Today we are really implementing world practices in gender policy being oriented not only to quantitative, but also qualitative indices”, Tetiana Kovalchuk stressed.
Besides, the scientific and practical conference aimed at creating professional ground for open dialogue, thoughts exchange, making conclusions and determining strategic directions of the state policy for providing equal rights and opportunities for women and men under modern conditions as well as ways to strengthen legislation and law enforcement practices.
