University Community Joined the Seminar “NATO Approach to Building Integrity”

The MIA of Ukraine conjointly with NATO Building Integrity Program organized the online seminar for higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine system regarding building of integrity held on 24 November. Teachers and cadets of all faculties of Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs took part in the event.

In course of the seminar, participants discussed international regulatory acts, norms and standards of anti-corruption activity and learnt about NATO approach to building integrity.

Dr. Nadja Milanova, head of NATO Building Integrity Program in Ukraine, emphasized the necessity to develop Integrity Program directed to strengthening the principles of good governance in security and defence sectors. According to her, the program aimed at developing individual and institutional potential through establishing or strengthening transparency, accountability and integrity in defense institutions as a binding condition to decrease corruption risks.

The speaker noted that corruption and undue governance were real threats for security sector and barrier for democracy, law supremacy and economic development.

“Significance of introduction of measures aimed at building integrity applies equally either to NATO members, or partner countries. This is why the new NATO Building Integrity Program was adopted. This program stipulates that democratic control is fundamental for stability in Euro-Atlantic zone and key for international cooperation”, she stated.

Winsen Ruber, senior assistant lawyer of the Legal Office of NATO Communications and Information Agency, delivered a lecture in terms of the seminar. The speaker gave examples of corruption in big corporations operation. Afterwards, cadets were solving real cases.
